about

The music this week was insistent on leading the way. In most of the improvisations, it clearly wanted to lead listeners toward wonder and bliss. The instrument is pedal steel, though several tracks feature timbres of Mellotron and ARP string synth, sometimes played over a shortwave radio. Others sound more organic, like oboe, glass harmonica, and chamber ensemble in an old stone church. In the fifth one, though, the music took a more obscure route, leading me on something like a blindfolded tour of an ancient building. There's some sonic journeying going on this week, and I hope it leads you to good places.

Wherever you are, I hope you're treating yourself well. This week's titles are a tribute to the work of Helen Frankenthaler. Thank you for listening!
