about

Going into this week's improvisation, I left the instrument choice up to a Twitter poll, and used the resulting Moog Guitar, which is best at supplying long, slowly shifting tones, rich with harmonics. Sometimes the Moog ends up entirely too loud, when a partial matches the wah pedal's resonant frequency, but this time there was a consistent quietness, even with the long sustain.

Several times during the performance, as I began to play toward one direction of development, the music would move in a different one. This instrument in particular has an agenda, and it's best to collaborate instead of trying to overrule. More than once, though, I found myself playing in a minor mode, and did try to bend those pieces toward something less dark.

Some darkness was definitely in the air, though I didn't know it until later. Things are difficult for a lot of people, and I hope that this can offer some respite.

This performance is dedicated to the work of Mark Tobey. Thank you for listening!
