about

Live performances have identities of their own, affected by the tangible and the intangible--events during the performance, but also the energy and emotion felt and expressed by the performer and audience. The performance event is often like driving in fog--where am I going? Is this the right direction? Is this even a road? If all goes well, we arrive safely.

In the improvisational moment, it can be difficult to see the overall structure of the piece, and it's often more effective to ask if a change makes immediate sense in context, trusting that they'll also make sense as part of a whole. Some sections sound like a brass ensemble, and some sound more like woodwinds. They sound alive and present, which is what matters.

Thank you to Min, DIDBOX, Nick, TotoRobyn, and everyone who was there. This performance is dedicated to the work of Jessica Houston (www.jessicahouston.net). Thank you for listening!
