about

Live improvisations for Internet streaming. For week three, I wanted to change some parts of the process so it wouldn't be too similar to last week's, so I started with bass for track 1. More resonant, but also darker than last week, and...a lot longer, but the improvisation leads where it leads.

Track 2 introduces the Heit Deluxe, in all its crackling glory. It's very easy to get pitch bends with this guitar...by pressing on the neck or body. Someday the head might fly off. But the results are pleasingly lush. The microphonic pickups allow body taps to come through, which reminded me a bit of dripping water, and I ended up liking the way that impulse sounds through the convolution reverb.

The third track ties together 2 and the previous weeks, with a little more reliance on string bending and the Bigsby. There's still that string-section texture. Track 4 goes darker and more distorted, with reliance on the wah pedal and delay-snapping noise, but modulates to something more placid.

Signal chain:

1: Bass
2: Heit Deluxe, in Baglama tuning
3, 4: PureSalem Mendiola

Instrument > Reuss RF-01 > Vox Wah > Moyo volume > Max/MSP quad delay patch
