about

I hope you're staying well and warm wherever you are. Here, snow is on the ground and winter's hanging on. That's ok for me, though I know it's very hard for others.

This week's improv seemed to be about acknowledging the past and its good and bad fortunes, victories and regrets, as well as the future and whatever it brings.

This comes out in the melodies that move between minor and major, but also in the instruments--the very forward-looking Moderne (the design of which is old), and the new-to-me (but old, with a long history) pedal steel I've just restored. The Moderne with this setup can sound like woodwinds, or just a fuzz guitar. Playing pedal steel is a new experience for me, and the three pieces here are the sound of the instrument and me discovering each other. There'll be more of these, for sure.

Thank you for listening! (And thank you to anyone who's listened live.)
