about

Here we are at the one-year mark--March 16 was the one-year anniversary of quarantine/lockdown for me. There's a feeling of looking back and reflecting on this last year. During the performance, one listener commented that the music seemed "sadder, more lonesome," and...that's not wrong. This week was very much a "listening for what the next note wants to be" experience, and (as another friend put it) "the music just wanted to come out sad today." Toward the end of the performance, I found myself thinking about this year and how much we've all lost, how much we've missed, and worries about what's ahead. Maybe you find this relatable.

From my point of view, this also comes from some new approaches I had to the patch. I was experimenting with making the relationships between the delays more complex, with randomization, and also using longer delay lines, so the pieces this week tended to be more sparse. But the sadness...just wanted to be expressed.

Thank you to everyone listening, and a wave to Min and Murray in Chicago.
