about

Looking back over this last year and five weeks...people have been through a lot. Many of us have endured losses. I think of friends and family who are gone, and some friends whose losses are still unfolding. It's understandable if anyone's exhausted by this, and it's understandable if you want some kind of break from it, however you find it.

This improvisation feels like it's finding some stillness and a place of calm, giving us permission to slow down. Maybe that's just me, but after performing this and listening back to it several times, and the slow accumulation of long tones, I felt like that without noticing it, I'd set down a lot of the stress I'd been carrying. Maybe it will help someone else in a similar way.

This performance is dedicated to Russ and Leah.
