about

Winter gives way to spring. Every morning now begins with a torrent of birdsong. Right now, it's blended with the sounds of motors, voices, radios around the neighborhood. Life continues, for those of us here to witness it.

This week, I used a 2008 Danelectro reissue baritone. It's...noisy. I've left the hum in place, rather than try to hide it. (There's no need to start debugging your playback system.) The mood...moves between reflection and loss, and then moves its attention outward.

Two years ago today, I was in North Adams, MA at the Cycling74 conference, with a day of workshops, of wandering around a small part of the wonderful Mass MoCA, attending memorable performances (including the quietest, most intense one I'd ever heard).

Five years ago today, fellow Pittsburgh ambient musician Jeff Kowal left us, and this performance is dedicated to him. I like to think he would have liked this set. spottedpeccary.com/jeff-kowal/

Some patches use mostly oscillators, some use delays, some use controlled amounts of randomness. Results range from gentle ambience to chaos. ... more
