about

My friends How Things Are Made (howthingsaremade.bandcamp.com) invited me to participate in their Second Evening of Drone event at The Space Upstairs (www.thespaceupstairs.org). Different players and instruments appear in different combinations, play for a while, and then rotate, so the pitches and timbres change throughout the evening. My section was in the middle--a solo section with overlap from other players at the beginning (flutes) and end (upright bass, synth).

This release is just my section. In keeping with the sensibility of the event, pitches stay around for a long time, and development is very slow. While improvised, it's different from my weekly improvs in how much slower it is. There's much more emphasis on texture and far less on harmony and melody. Sometimes, though...that's what you need.

Thank you to Brian, Dave, and Matt of How Things Are Made, and to Luke and David for stopping in to check it out. Thank you also to everyone who played, danced, and made the event happen!

The title is a tribute to the work of Carole Pierce. Thank you for listening!
