about

Unlike last week, I was able to bring out the voice of the pedal steel. The music this week directed me listening to things as they are--both the presence of the music, and the presence of its silences.

This music sounds both bodied (4, 6, 8) with timbres of strings, woodwinds, brass, and vocals...and some very un-bodied vocals in 3 and 5. (Maybe that's appropriate for the month.)

Against a background of distressing news, we find ourselves wherever our bodies are. It sounds like a platitude, but it's easy to live in our heads and forget what's around us.

This week's improvisation is dedicated to the visual art of Alice Trumbull Mason, and to the remaining and former employees of Bandcamp. Thank you for listening.
