about

Every performance is an opportunity for change. In this one, there's less line noise present, since I'd replaced the battery in the eBow. More than that, there's a different character to the timbre of the notes. This week's improvisations manifest a few different moods--some onset-of-autumn reflection, thoughts of things past, some acceptance, some confidence, and even hopefulness.

This week's performance is dedicated to the work of Goro Hirata, whose wax-and-cloth construction Mind Space was installed at the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh over twenty years ago. I was lucky enough to experience it, and I look back on that work fondly. His other work is difficult to find online, but his recent temporary site-specific works in Alaska's Inside Passage resonated very strongly. (See mattress.org/works/mind-space/ and www.a-quad.jp/exhibition/017/p01.html )

Thank you for listening!
