about

This week's performance is a return to the Moog Guitar, which is sometimes cooperative, sometimes willful, and always very acoustically present in the room, so performances as they unfold seem full of sound, dense, and busy to me...which is very different from what listeners hear and the recorder records. Inevitably, I don't hear the music as it is until later. This one seems calm and centered, while also expanding outward.

Last week I listened to a few of the earlier weekly performances (40 and 26), which sound very dark and brooding now, perhaps understandably. Some of that feeling comes from the dissonance of the ring modulator, and it seemed interesting to try bringing those timbres back for these pieces, with a more gentle intention.

These pieces are dedicated to the work of Tony DeLap. Wherever you are, I hope you're well and taking good care of yourself. Thank you for listening!
